I received and invitation to join a diocesan liturgical commission that will begin implementing the new edition of the Roman Missal. The same Roman Missal that historically threatened to leave ministry over. (I would link to the post here, but I can't find it. A Catholic Kitsch present mailed to whomever can find it!)
The reply card gives me the options of "Accepts with Pleasure" and "Declines with Regrets."
I've been holding onto the invitation for days because I keep hoping a more honest option will appear. Perhaps "Accepts with Great Reservation" or "Declines with Relief."
My fear is the commission will be a soul-sucking task that will make me want to leave the church. My hope is that joining the commission will get me on the inside track so my parish will know ahead of time what the heck is going on. My favorite coworker (yes, you are allowed to have favorites) assures me the leader of the commission is nice, despite his job.
Hmmm. . .what to do?

Are you concerned about the language or just the implementation? Try this...go find the english translation of the Tridentine Mass and see if that makes you crazy and depressed...if not, then the new translation won't be nearly as bad...if yes, well MAYBE it won't be as bad anyway???
Or maybe you could sign up and if the exercise gets too bad bring a bunch of wine to the meetings and tell them you're doing an altar wine study and are field testing new wines...ask for volunteers.

Do you, um, LIKE the new Missal? Is it, in your opinion, GOOD for the People of God? If not, is there some GREATER GOOD that might be achieved by helping to inflict it on them anyway? Will you look or feel like a fool stumping for something that's not just theologically objectionable, but features bad grammar? (Not that I'm opinionated on this one...)

I've been lurking around a bit. I have to say, maybe you shouldn't participate in the implementation of the New Translation of the Roman Missal.
In fact, from your resentment of the Churches support for the Yes on 8 campaign, to this, I can see no real basis for you to be a Lay Minister. At All.
If you do not accept and support the Teachings and disciplines of the Church--join one whose teachings and disciplines you do.
A great many of us are glad of the new translations, and hope that it will also provide an much needed opportunity for the liturgical and musical reforms the Renewal of Vatican II so badly needs.

Thank you for coming back.
Did you go?
I've stopped concerning my self with it given the ongoing level of wrangling I keep hearing about it.
In some ways the cup has been crushed.

I think an english translation of the Tridentine Mass would be the best solution.

Don't do it. Your parish doesn't need a headstart. That's crazy.

Following my own exploration, thousands of people all over the world get the home loans at well known creditors. Hence, there is great possibilities to receive a short term loan in every country.

You're probably right that it would have been an awful experience, and they likely would have taken credit in the end for any creative input you had in the process...everything happens for a reason, and I'm sure you're better off where you are now! It also sounds like you learned from it, so that's invaluable!

I'm totally laughing because I know quite a few people that would think this is a good idea where they work. But really- it's so sad that their leaders know that this is a problem. Their answer isn't to change the environment to prevent the jumping- just put something out there to catch them when they do. Sure makes me feel so very fortunate to work where I do. It's like a gift from God.
