Thanks for Your Donation

Another benefit of working for the church is that you are privy to information that you may not otherwise hear. Information like how my diocese and the diocese across the bay contributed money to the Yes on Prop. 8 campaign.

I understand the Church's position on homosexuality. Hell, I've even explained the position to other people. (I can also explain to you many other things I do not personally believe.) I will even go so far as to almost compliment the California bishop conference for writing a letter that was about as tolerant as it could be and still tow the party line.

But I am pissed off that money that I contributed to the church (a portion of which goes to the diocese) was used to fund a proposition that I find fundamentally and embarrassingly unjust.

So last night we made a big fat donation to No on Prop. 8, and in the "Donation in Honor of" line wrote, "The Roman Catholic Church."

Hahahaha! I donated even though I'm not from California--but I wish I had thought of the "Donation in Honor of" line!
